While searching the internet for something new to add to this blog, I came across another blog site that contained numerous other blog threads pertaining to knowledge management in www.knowledgeboard.com. A post that caught my attention immediately, entitled “Is KM going down?” began a thread of posts with the suggestion that what we have learned in class is a growing trend could actually be a declining fad. Although this is based off some rather bold assumptions (check out the article to find them out) it lead to a rather detailed explanation by several other bloggers clarifying that while it may appear that KM is on the decline, it is simply diversifying and expanding into new areas. If you are looking at more information concerning the evolution of knowledge management, or would simply like to laugh at one guy’s idea getting shot down by a series of bloggers, take a look at:

I thought this was really interesting, and I was going to formulate a reply on why I think everyone against the main blogger was right, and how much knowledge management is not declining, but rather it is becoming a big thing. When I was looking for articles to back me up, I came across another blog (it’s funny how many blogs are about this and how many people are doing the same thing we are!). I find a lot of what this blog has to say interesting, and there are graphs to explain and help prove her view. The article states that wikipedia suggests that “knowledge management” started n about 1995. Google trend shows that while news about knowledge management has remained roughly the same, searches for the phrase “knowledge management” have dropped off dramatically since 2004. This suggests that is popularity is based on people searching for the phrase knowledge management, then it is becoming less popular. Or as the writer suggests, maybe more people already know what knowledge management is and they do not have to search as much for it anymore. After all, the phrase has been around for 13 years. Since taking this class, and just learning about it, I feel like the subject is fresh, new, and a hot item. Articles I have read talk about how this is the new thing and act like it is not in decline, so is this the case then? Or are less and less people caring about it and therefore are not searching for the term online?
